“The Battle of Stalingrad” Panorama Museum
“The Battle of Stalingrad” Panorama Museum complex is the biggest memorial exposition in Russia, commemorating one of the bloodiest battles in the history of warfare. Its construction was completed in July 1982. However, Major General Anisimov conceived the idea of such museum during the war: he wrote about it to Stalin. In 1944, a contest for professional artists and amateur designers offered some of the best projects for the reconstruction of the ruined Stalingrad. Many of the projects presented the idea of a panoramic memorial showing the fights for the city, so it was then that the concept of panorama museum was finally accepted. Vadim Maslyaev, the chief architect of the hero-city, had the privilege to develop and complete the project.
